The CCM Extreme Flex 5 Senior Goalie Leg Pads bring new advancements to the weight, pad seal and flexibility with the 5th rendition of the Extreme Flex line. Through a modern DUAL1TECORE, Control Rebound Technology and a raised flat inside edge, the E-Flex 5 Goalie Pads have lots to offer goalies.
External Material
The E-Flex 5 leg pad is wrapped in CCM’s proprietary SpeedSkin material. SpeedSkin is just as thick and durable as traditional Jenpro, but it's embossed texture allows for an effortless slide.
Internal Construction
The core of the CCM EFlex 5 goal pad is made up of CCM’s DUAL1TECORE Technology. While also being incredibly light, DUAL1TECORE gives the pad a different flex profile in key areas. The boot and shin of the E-Flex 5 are soft and allow for torsional flex, feel and mobility. Above the knee, the pad has added stiffness to maintain seal and structure along the ice.
The face of the CCM EFlex 5 consists of new Control Rebound Technology. Control Rebound Technology is a soft foam throughout the face of the Eflex 5, and acts to deaden rebounds. This soft face allows the goalie to keep rebounds close, to be able to control and cover the puck.
Pad Break
The break setup on the Eflex 5 consists of one outer break, paired with an internal pre-curved single break. This gives goalies flex at the knee and five hole closure, while maintaining the pad’s seal to the ice. As this is largely a personal preference, many break setups can be ordered at custom.
Boot Angle & Toe Taper
To maintain flexibility and compliment the DUAL1TECORE, the EFlex 5 will have a deep ultra soft boot channel. This 90 degree boot angle gives goalies a soft feel, while making power pushes and other movements easier.
Knee Cradle
CCM uses recessed foam with a removable knee cradle wrap to allow customizability and comfort. This deep knee cradle is designed to help close the five-hole and prevent you from falling off the knee stack, while still having unrestricted mobility.
Knee & Thigh Protection
The CCM E-flex 5 Pads do not have any knee/thigh protection included. The wider recessed knee cradle works best with an independent kneepad; a kneepad is also generally recommended for shot and impact protection.
Strapping
The E-Flex 5 features CCM’s Quick Motion strapping system. After prior success and growing NHL adoption, the QMS system continues on the EFlex 5. Through work with the biomechanics team at Western University, CCM was able to find out what straps were actually needed on a pad, along with which configuration performed the best. The two velcro calf straps and knee strap make the pad lighter, along with giving the pad great responsiveness and butterfly drop speed. The toe bridge of the Eflex 5 has a velcro bungee system, in the place of traditional skate lace. CCM’s bungee system is quick and secure, and allows for more flexibility, easing the stress on goalies’ joints.
Colors, Sizes & Customization
The CCM E-Flex 5 SR Goalie Leg Pads are offered in a range of stock colors, in the stock sizes of 33+1 through 35+2. The E-Flex 5 can be fully customized on CCM’s online customizer. New for this year, the internal rebound foams on the E-Flex 5 can be customized. Goalies have the choice between the soft rebound structure of their Control Rebound Technology, or the lively MaxRebound+ Technology used on CCM's Axis pads. Goalie Leg Pads Sizing
Deciding your Goalie Pads size is crucial for having total control while moving in the crease. Sizing your pads properly is the difference between getting that perfect seal on your butterfly, and feeling clunky or unprotected in the net. Below we have compiled some information to better assist you in deciding which size is right for you.
Floor-To-Knee Measurement
Your Floor-To-Knee measurement will give you a good indication as to what "Pad Size" you will need. This measurement can be matched up with the provided sizing chart above.
How to Measure your Floor-To-Knee
- 1. In your bare feet, place the soft measuring tape at the inside of the bottom of your foot.
2. Slightly bend your knee.
3. Run the soft measuring tape up your shin, to the middle of your knee.
4. Match your Floor-To-Knee measurement with the provided sizing chart
What to look for when trying on your new pads.
Once you have your new leg pads, you’ll need to make sure they fit you properly. To do so, you’ll need to put the pads on with your skates. There a couple things to do to check size, once you have the pads on:
1. Stand straight and bring your feet together. This will show you the overall height of the pad, while on. Your pads should not be taller than your hips. Ideally you want the top of your pad at the half-way point of your thighs. A pad fitted for a young growing goaltender can be a little taller, so a little above the half-way point is normal.
2. Next you want to get in your stance, keep your hands in a ready position, and drop to your butterfly. Without moving your legs to correct your butterfly, bring your heels together. This is where you assess your knee position. For a proper fit, you want the middle of your knee to sit directly on the center of the knee stack. If you’re looking for growing room, you want the middle of your knee to land roughly 1.5” below the center of the knee stack (1” for JR).
Not getting a complete seal while in your butterfly?
If you're having trouble getting a full seal in your new pads, it may be the way you’re strapping them up. Make sure your boot strap and top straps (above knee) are loosened up a bit. The reason you want these straps loose is because they have a direct effect on the rotation of the pad. Having a loose boot strap makes it easy for your foot and ankle to rotate as the pad moves. Same goes for the top straps, as you don't want them pulling down too hard on the thigh rise.
