CCM’s newest addition to their renowned Tacks skate family, the XF Pro, is designed for players who want to maximize power and efficiency in every stride. With a blend of advanced materials and cutting-edge technology, both new and returning, the Tacks XF Pro skates aspire to elevate your game to the highest level yet. In this post, we’ll take a look at various key features that separate these skates from the rest.
Tacks is CCM’s dedicated power line, engineered for players who channel maximum energy into every stride. Unlike the Jetspeed line, which prioritizes agility and acceleration, Tacks skates are built with a stiffer construction near the base. This construction has a closer fit and enhances direct energy transfer from the player’s legs to the ice, ensuring that every push-off is as powerful and efficient as possible.
The stiffer boot serves multiple other purposes too: it allows for more explosive strides while additionally enhancing the durability of the skate. With Tacks, you can be in it for the long term.
CCM has also incorporated their Game Ready Fit technology into the Tacks series, making these skates easier to wear and break in right out of the box.
Colour-wise, these skates maintain a similar aesthetic to the previous generation, the AS-V Pros, but with a dark, refined touch. The gold accents have been darkened, resulting in a sleek, dark gold and black look that will fit in seamlessly with any team colours or graphics.
This rendition of the renowned Tacks skate introduces a new boot construction: FORS composite. This new tech focuses on combining raw materials with a high-end core to enhance the skates’ weight-to-stiffness ratio. In other words, the skates’ have been constructed stronger than ever to support your stride.
CCM continues to use a one-piece boot construction with 215-grade stiffness for maximum support and power on every stride. This stiffness is ideal for strong power skaters, since stiffer skates can be more difficult to break in and get used to. If you are in that demographic and want to empower your stride to the next level, then these may be perfect for you.
Please note that despite the Game Ready Fit, the XF Pro skates are still considered a stiff skate — as such, if you aren’t confident in your skating or aren’t used to a stiffer boot, it may take some additional time to get used to. If you are just learning to skate, it may best to look at softer skates. The Tacks XF90, XF80, and XF70 all use softer boots for more comfortability while still keeping to that powerskating dynamic.
The Flex Tendon 3.0 has been given an updated shape for greater extension and response on the stride. The FORS composite upgrade further extends to the tendon guard, so you can be assured of both quality and performance for the long term.
The tongue has been modified to be softer to complement the skates’ design and make them easier to skate in; that said, it still offers the amount of protection and forward flexion support you need to be one step ahead of the competition.
The tongue uses injected D3O lacebite protection in the front, a foam found in many of CCM’s highest end protective gear. D3O is a smart, rate-sensitive material known for its exceptional impact absorption properties. When exposed to low-speed impacts or regular movements, D3O remains soft and flexible. However, in response to high-speed impacts, the material stiffens to provide superior protection. In lace bite protection, the foam adapts to your movements constantly throughout the game.
Regarding adaptive technology in CCM skates, CCM continues to incorporate ADPT memory foam in their skates, including the Tacks XF Pro.
ADPT memory foam is renowned for its ability to conform to the player's foot, combined with the molded CCM Ortholite Ultra on the footbed and the ankle padding, all for a more personalized and closer fit. Additionally, the heel area has been redesigned into a Heel Lockdown zone, keeping your foot securely in place.
The skate liner now features a more responsive design, working with the stability and durability of the FORS composite and power boot. The liner's 3D textured construction, along with a higher instep volume, further improves fit and hold, complementing the Heel Lockdown zone for a better skating experience.
I’ve always favoured stiffer, power skates, so I had high hopes when I got to try these out on-ice. They are definitely designed for that kind of player— someone with a strong skating style who wants to go all-in with every stride they take. It may take some time to get used to if you aren’t used to stiffer skates, but if you have the right confidence in your skating, these might just be the skates you’re looking for.
