Bauer continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in a stick with their new AG5NT goal stick. New for Fall 2023, Bauer's latest installment in their innovative goalie hockey stick lineup packs a ton of new technologies and design elements into an exceptionally lightweight stick— even one technology that can be found on the periodic table!

What is the AG5NT?

AG5NT in the goalie department is like the spiritual successor of the OD1N and ADV series of sticks. In other words, AG5NT is the next Innovation Series from Bauer.

Innovation Series come from Bauer's innovation team asking the simple question: “What is the best product we can create?” while disregarding traditional norms and barriers. These products utilize Bauer's best materials, technologies, and design elements to create the best of the best.

The “5” in the AG5NT name derives from the 5th element in the periodic table, which is also one of the key materials used in the stick's making. Boron is strategically placed throughout the stick to give the AG5NT its lightweight and balanced feel.

On the player side of things, the AG5NT stick was a massive success and continues to be used in the NHL. With the success on the player side, Bauer has continued with their Innovation Series to mirror on the goalie side as well!

Who Is the AG5NT Goal Stick For?

In theory, the Bauer AG5NT will be for the elite-level goalie looking for the lightest weight and best on-paper performance in their goalie stick. Despite this, the AG5NT will still be a great option for any goaltender wanting a stick with Bauer's best tech in a lightweight package.

Many of the goalies who come through our doors express that a light stick is high on their list of priorities when picking out a new stick— and the AG5NT delivers. However, that also means it might not be the best option for some. Some goalies are not always seeking the lightest goal stick, and prefer the feel and familiarity of a heavier construction. For goalies that prefer a more traditional stick and want to feel more substance in their hand, the Ag5nt goal stick may not be the best fit.

Goalie gear is largely based on preference; not one piece of gear will be the catch-all for everyone. I can honestly say that in any category of goalie gear, there is no clear ‘best’ option. What works for one goalie may not work for another, and often times what we think works for us, is simply what ends up working.

Technology in the AG5NT Goal Stick

Boron

As mentioned, boron is the 5th element on the periodic table and the reason for the stick's namesake AG5NT. Boron is a chemical element known for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and stiffness. In the AG5NT goalie stick, it offers several advantages. The boron incorporation is able to help enhance multiple components of the stick.

Boron is known for its lightweight properties; by incorporating boron material into specific areas of the stick, Bauer is able to reduce the overall weight without compromising strength and durability. Additionally, the strategy behind placing boron all across the stick allows the weight to be distributed more effectively, for a more balanced feel. A balanced stick is important for increasing control, thus keeping the play in control in front of the net.

Boron is also renowned for its high stiffness. When integrated into the stick, it can add an extra level of rigidity for greater responsiveness.

ACL 2.0 Technology

At its core, ACL 2.0 is all about optimizing the arrangement of carbon layers within the stick's construction. This intricate and meticulously engineered process allows the AG5NT to deliver an unmatched combination of lightweight agility and unwavering durability.

In the AG5NT goal stick, ACL 2.0 technology is taken to the next level with increased amounts of thin carbon layering strategically integrated into the design. This isn't just about reducing weight; it's about unlocking the stick's full potential. These thin carbon layers not only keep the stick lightweight but also enhance energy absorption and transfer.

Quad-Bridge Paddle

The paddle uses a Quadruple-Stanchion construction, which is essentially four vertical supports through the paddle to provide a higher degree of structural reinforcement on impact. This means that the stick is better equipped to withstand the impact of shots, checks, and other physical stresses it may encounter during gameplay.

The Bauer AG5NT goal stick resembles the paddle and shaft shape of their Vapor line. This means a shorter shaft by 2", which can make for easier puck-playing. Moving down to the paddle of the AG5NT, Bauer has used their straight arch-style paddle geometry, which is flat on the sides with a slight concave, which stops pucks from skipping over the paddle and keeps pucks in front of you.

XE Taper, ConnecTech Handle, and Penta-Grip

The AG5NT is equipped with multiple technologies around the shaft and taper to help maximize your potential on the ice.

The XE Taper introduces a shorter, elliptical-shaped shaft that optimizes weight distribution for a more balanced and agile goalie stick. The modified taper not only optimizes agility but also allows for precise and crucial movements for the fast-paced environment of the crease.

Signature to the Vapor line, the AG5NT proudly boasts the VAPOR pentagonal shoulder grip, known as Penta-Grip. This distinctive feature goes beyond aesthetics, offering goaltenders a solid combination of optimal comfort and unrivalled control. Whether you're deflecting a high-velocity shot or making a precision pass, the Penta-Grip provides a secure hold, ensuring you have a confident grasp on the stick in any situation.

In the heat of the game, the last thing a goaltender needs is distracting vibrations from stick saves. This is where the ConnecTech handle of the AG5NT goalie stick comes in— This handle is engineered to lessen the vibration upon impact, so you can maintain control and composure during even the toughest of situations.

With the tech of the AG5NT goal stick, goaltenders can gain the confidence they need to control the front of the net.

Round Toe TeXtreme & Hypercore Blade

The AG5NT uses a TeXtreme blade with Hypercore and a rounded toe, all working together to lower the weight of the stick while additionally offering a more balanced feel.

Hypercore  is the standout feature of the blade. This innovation is designed with an enhanced carbon bridge construction, giving it greater stiffness, and thus creating a more responsive blade.

Durability

One of the most common questions we get asked at the stick rack of our goal department is will it last?— especially with a stick this light.

It's important to note that nobody can truly guarantee the lifespan of any goal stick, as a stick's lifespan depends a lot on various on-ice and off-ice factors. However, Bauer has brought their proprietary  technologies to key areas of this stick to make sure that goalies can enjoy this stick for many games and practices.

Graphics

The AG5NT goal stick sports a sleek, black-and-white look, with unique hits of their signature volt green; reminiscent of the popular Ag5nt player stick. This graphic and colour choice are sure to match well with virtually any team and gear setup, while subtly letting everyone know that you have one of the best goal sticks in the game.

At this time, the AG5NT goal stick cannot be customized.

Sizes and Curves

The Bauer AG5NT goal stick is available in Intermediate size 24" and Senior sizes 25", 26", and 27" in regular hand. For full-right goalies, the Ag5nt is available in 25" and 26" paddle heights.

The AG5NT is only available in the popular P31 curve. P31 is a versatile mid curve that for years has been a fan favourite of goalies at all levels. In fact, many NHL goalies still continue to use the standard stock P31 curve.

Conclusion

The AG5NT really stands in a league of its own.

The infusion of boron lends the stick its exceptional lightweight and balanced properties, setting it apart from its predecessors.
