Intro & New Features
As any hockey goaltender knows, having reliable and high-performance gear is essential for success on the ice. Bauer has taken their renowned Hyperlite gear and upgraded it for the 2023 season with a combination of new technology, what worked before, and what’s worked in their other gear families. The Hyperlite 2 chest and arm protector features a Mobility Control sternum, Fusecomp arms, Shocklite foam, and Thermocore and Hypersense liners.
External Material
The Hyperlite 2 chest protector combines a variety of high-quality materials such as leather and advanced nylons to increase abrasion resistance. The chest protector uses a Thermocore Zero liner in the spinal area and a Hypersense liner in the arms for pro-level comfort. Thermocore Zero liner is lighter and more breathable than liners used previously, and Hypersense is specially designed with high-performance material and intended to enhance the overall comfort and fit of the equipment.
Internal Foams
The majority of foams in the Hyperlite 2 are made up of Shocklite and Fusecomp for elite-level protection.
Shoulder Caps
The Hyperlite's shoulders are crafted with Shock-Lite Pro construction, offering superior impact protection and absorption. Shocklite is designed to provide a lightweight and flexible layer of protection that helps to absorb and disperse the impact of incoming shots and rebounds.
The Hyperlite 2 chest and arm protector takes inspiration from lacrosse goalies in the shoulder floaters with Bauer’s new Mobility Control shoulder floaters. Shaped slightly similar to a lacrosse goalie chest pad, the shoulder floaters on this pad are low-profile and sit off the shoulder, simultaneously making the goalie look big while lessening direct impact from shots. The Mobility Control design can also be found in the sternum.
Adjustable Arms
Fusecomp Technology has been used to build the arms of the Hyperlite 2; this tech involves fusing multiple layers of foam and plastics together into a single, thin layer. The result is more efficient energy absorption, reducing the amount of force felt by the goaltender during impacts.
The arms are also removable, allowing for a truly customizable fit and specs.
Sizes & Colors
The Hyperlite 2 Senior chest and arm protector comes in sizes XSmall, Small, Medium, Large, and XLarge in Black and White.

Goalie Chest Protector Sizing
Sizing a chest protector is important to ensure the goaltenders range of motion is uninhibited, while still offering complete coverage from impact. There are steps necessary to finding the right fit in your chest protector, and the first is to know your measurements. Here at The Hockey Shop, we like to use two measurements: torso length and arm span. Once you have these two measurements, match your measurements to our sizing charts.
Sizing your Chest Protector
After receiving your chest protector, you are going to want to check if the size fits the following criteria:
- 1. The arms end just before your wrist. This is important because you want to ensure that the wrist portion of the arms do not interfere with your blocker and catcher—this still provides adequate growing room for the blocker and trapper, which usually last you 1 to 2 years. Depending on the model, adjustable arms may be an offered feature, which is an added bonus for goaltenders that are still growing.
2. Your elbows fit securely in to the pocket of the elbow protection, and do not shift too far away from them. Keep in mind, arms usually have to be adjusted while putting on your chest & arm. Use the adjustable arm features where given to give you an optimal fit.
3. Make sure the shoulders of the chest & arm are sitting comfortably atop, and wrapped around your shoulders. This can be seen visually by looking at the collar of the chest & arm. You want the collar to sit slightly above your clavicle, but not too high that it interferes with the bottom of your goalie mask.
Each brand of chest & arms will have not only a different shape, but also a slightly different fit. We highly recommend having one of our Goalie Specialists to assist you in optimizing the fit of your Chest Protector. If you can't make it into the store, give us a call so we can walk you through it.
