In recent years, Bauer has been blurring the line that differentiates a pro pad from their midline level gear. The Supreme M5 Pro takes many features from both its bigger brother and older Supreme pads alike.

Features such as a C.O.R.Tech Plus calf plate, redesigned strapping system and a Curv composite reinforced core all make the M5 Pro a great value option for goalies of all skill levels.

External Material

C.O.R.Tech Plus skin returns better than ever in the M5Pro pads. The material, also known as Coefficient of Restitution, is designed to quickly return to its original shape right after deflecting the puck. This property is ideal for reacting on rebounds after the initial save. With C.O.R.Tech, the pads are able to give off a longer rebound. C.O.R.Tech also offers a much better sliding surface compared to classic Jenpro leather.

Internal Construction

The dual-density core is further equipped with a CURV composite thigh. This helps keep the pad stiff and able to deflect pucks effortlessly. CURV is also known to be incredibly light, making both textbook and desperation saves even easier to execute.

Pad Break

The M5 Pro features a 151 degree break making it straighter and less of that Vapor style S-curve shape. The pad has a mid-flex profile with a stiffened thigh, break below the knee and a soft yet steep boot.

Boot Angle & Toe Taper

Bauer chose a 120 degree, soft flex boot for the M5. When paired with the stiffer core, a softer boot flex allows for better mobility in the crease compared to other stiff pads. Toe taper comes in at 90 degrees to ensure a flush post and butterfly seal.

Knee Block

New for the M5 Pro leg pads is the inclusion of the Stabilislide knee block. First seen on the Ultrasonic, the stabilislide knee block is built into the core using an L-shaped bracket that increases its stiffness giving you a better seal and more stable feeling pad that snaps into the butterfly quicker.

Strapping

Bauer has tweaked their leg channel and strapping for this new Supreme pad. Tune-Fit+ is the result of multiple generations of refinement of the Tune-Fit system. This iteration features a V-shaped strap that is a fixed size but is adjustable allowing for that tighter or looser fit. This design better wraps and secures the calf than the previous elastic Y strap that doesn’t give the same level of consistency. The calf wrap itself has been extended offering better coverage while remaining lightweight and malleable through the use of Bauer’s AeroLite foam.

Bauer has also brought a new Calf Support System to the M5 pad. Similar to their knee block designs, the calf plate is now also attached into the core of the pad. This improves the seal of the pad as well as the balance and feel when in the butterfly. A molded calf pillow like that on the Hyperlite is also now used to help with that more solid landing area. The M5 also features the same C.O.R.Tech Plus skin once seen on the Ultrasonic pro pad on the calf and knee area to help improve the sliding performance on this new midline supreme pad.

Colors, Sizes & Customization

The Bauer Supreme M5 Pro Senior Goalie Leg Pads come in stock colourways of White, White/Black, White/Blue, White/Navy, Black and White/Red in sizes from XS(32) to XL(36).

Love the pads, great upgrade. Trust the toe bungies they are great. Not sure of the longevity of pads but like them 1/2 way through the year

Very light-weight pads

I'm mainly a player but I play enough in net that I wanted to replace my Vaughn XP pads from about 20 years ago. Being new to the current style of goaltending, I wanted to learn how to do power pushes and RVH. Cam got me to try four different pads to see which felt and looked best for me. I initially looked at the Bauer Vapor 3X and Cam brought out the M5 Pro, and two other pads (I think one was a heavily discounted Mach pads that were dis-coloured due to the way the material reacted to light). The M5 Pro and 3X felt best to me but I ultimately decided on the M5 Pro as it felt slightly better in making a seal.

After using these pads for a few months now, I've gotten used to the way they sit and adjusted the leg and toe straps to the way I want them. I'm still learning to do power pushes but these pads slide fairly easily and I was surprised with the seal beneath my leg when I'm down in the butterfly position. Pucks that normally squeeze under my Vaughn XP pads were being stopped by the slider. Overall, I'm happy with these pads and hope that they'll last as long as my Vaughn XP pads.

Good despite manufacturing flaw

The pads are great, but came with a manufactured flaw. I bought the black pads and there is no white lining on the right pad. However, the staff at The hockey shop was great at searching for a solution. I end up having a refund as a compensation.

Goalie Leg Pads Sizing

Deciding your Goalie Pads size is crucial for having total control while moving in the crease. Sizing your pads properly is the difference between getting that perfect seal on your butterfly, and feeling clunky or unprotected in the net. Below we have compiled some information to better assist you in deciding which size is right for you.

Floor-To-Knee Measurement
Your Floor-To-Knee measurement will give you a good indication as to what "Pad Size" you will need. This measurement can be matched up with the provided sizing chart above.

How to Measure your Floor-To-Knee

    1. In your bare feet, place the soft measuring tape at the inside of the bottom of your foot.
    2. Slightly bend your knee.
    3. Run the soft measuring tape up your shin, to the middle of your knee.
    4. Match your Floor-To-Knee measurement with the provided sizing chart

What to look for when trying on your new pads.
Once you have your new leg pads, you’ll need to make sure they fit you properly. To do so, you’ll need to put the pads on with your skates. There a couple things to do to check size, once you have the pads on:
1. Stand straight and bring your feet together. This will show you the overall height of the pad, while on. Your pads should not be taller than your hips. Ideally you want the top of your pad at the half-way point of your thighs. A pad fitted for a young growing goaltender can be a little taller, so a little above the half-way point is normal.
2. Next you want to get in your stance, keep your hands in a ready position, and drop to your butterfly. Without moving your legs to correct your butterfly, bring your heels together. This is where you assess your knee position. For a proper fit, you want the middle of your knee to sit directly on the center of the knee stack. If you’re looking for growing room, you want the middle of your knee to land roughly 1.5” below the center of the knee stack (1” for JR).

Not getting a complete seal while in your butterfly?
If you're having trouble getting a full seal in your new pads, it may be the way you’re strapping them up. Make sure your boot strap and top straps (above knee) are loosened up a bit. The reason you want these straps loose is because they have a direct effect on the rotation of the pad. Having a loose boot strap makes it easy for your foot and ankle to rotate as the pad moves. Same goes for the top straps, as you don't want them pulling down too hard on the thigh rise.
