The E-Flex 2 series launched on April 10th. Extreme Flex 2 catcher ready Once again, CCM has added a great feeling catching glove to their line up. The E-Flex 2 trapper brings back the true, long pocket/small cuff catching style feel of the original E-Flex that won many NHL goalies over under the CCM and Reebok brands as the 600 break. The E-Flex 2 offers less blocking surface on the cuff compared to the Reebok XLT gloves with the 590 and 580 breaks, but it has much more catching surface. This allows the pocket to be slightly bigger despite the circumference being the same size as the Reebok XLT gloves. Extreme Flex 2 Leg Pads on ice tight post Puck handling with the E-Flex 2 glove is comfortable due to the very straight closure it has. It’s easy to grip the stick because there is quite a lot of glove surface to put on the shaft, even compared to the Reebok XLT 590 gloves, which are well known for being easy to puck handle with. This straight closure that reflects so positively in puck handling also has a unique characteristic in that is more “fingers down” in it’s closure, feeling a lot closer to an older style catcher or a baseball glove. This makes the catcher a bit more comfortable with a lower hand position (more beside the pad than a very upright fingers up position), although it doesn’t feel unnatural up near your ear either. Extreme Flex 2 catcher stick handling The E-Flex 2 catcher features a brand new material to the hockey industry call D3O. D30 material effectively minimizes vibration and bounce off of its surface, while also providing a more protective surface. CCM is really excited about having the exclusive to bring this technology to hockey. Check out this video to get the scoop on how D30 works.
D30 material has been inserted into the palm to reduce the amount of padding needed to keep your hand protected in a pro level glove. Less material with more protection makes the E-Flex 2 catcher easier to close, which is a huge advantage for goalies looking to transition quickly into their new gear. Although the primary role of D3O material is to provide an increased level of protection, it also minimizes the rebound force that the puck has off the glove, meaning pop outs are less likely to happen.
