Though Bauer has made some major changes to the fit in terms of comfort, and customizability, if you were a fan of Nexus gear in the past, Bauer has upped the level quality and features with the new 1N equipment.
Bauer’s foremost upgrade to the Nexus protective line is the use of their Seven+ Technology Foam that made its appearance in Bauer’s helmets. Bauer hopes to bring the same protective properties and mindset in terms of repeated impacts to the rest of their protective line. Seven+ Technology is a molded foam that is able to maintain its shape after multiple impacts. Certainly, a great addition and it can be seen on high impact areas on the protective gear.
As for the liners, Bauer’s 37.5 technology makes its way over the 1N gear to help wick away moisture using the player’s energy.
Shoulder Pad
Beginning with the 1N Shoulder Pad, the priority for Bauer with the Nexus line is to provide the ultimate in coverage and protection. The 1N has their new Seven+ Technology built into key – high impact areas. The shoulder caps are injected and feature Seven+ Technology foam with multi-density foam for added protection. The use of these foams combined, provide essential impact resistant properties that will ensure players stay protected when faced with a high velocity impact.
The sternum also incorporates the combination of Seven+ Tech and a PE insert for added protection from sticks and pucks. The front side panels, spine, and back kidney panels all feature HD foam for impact resistance. Moving to the bicep guard, the Nexus 1N’s free flex design enhances mobility when stickhandling, sticking to Bauer’s goal of controlled movement. The guard also features a thermoformed component for added protection. Moving to the Free Glide Arch, Bauer’s thought process was to maximize mobility without hindrances to the player movement during gameplay and they succeeded in achieving their goal of a free-movement design.
Elbow Pad
The central theme of 1N gear is to provide the ultimate coverage and you’ll notice this instantly the moment you first try on the new 1N elbows. With an injected cap with HF top covering, the elbow provides excellent protection and you can ensure you’ll be safe from repeated impacts. As for the bicep guard, Bauer implemented their Seven+ Technology foam and the use of a PE insert to help disperse the impacts from slashes and pucks.
Shin Pad
Bauer truly drives the home the point of no compromises and ultimate protection with the 1N Shin Pad. The focus of course is overall protection and Bauer has gone ahead and improved the cap width and shin guard width. Also, the shin uses an injected knee cap and a thermoformed ergonomic cap for the shin guard. The calf guard is where you’ll find Seven+ Technology along with an additional PE insert.
